FLAT FEET BASIC SOCKS
This pattern is not intended for commercial use. Permission is granted by Conjoined Creations to copy and use this pattern for personal use only. Designed by Colleen East. Adult Size Needle: Four size U.S. 3 double pointed needles (dpn) Gauge: 6.5 sts/inch, 16 rows = 1 ¼” in stockinette stitch. Yarn: Flat Feet by Conjoined Creations Note: All Sl sts to be slipped as if to purl (except SSK) Working with Flat Feet Knit directly from the flat –no skeins, no balls, no tangles! Remove the waste yarn (undyed) and discard. If you wish to knit two socks simultaneously, split at the center waste yarn and start the second sock on the second half. As this yarn has been previously knit into a flat, there will be a crimp in the working yarn. Knit tightly for socks as you normally would, knowing that the crimp will release during the blocking process and your stitches will become even. Flat will stuff into pocket or purse for easy knitting while on the go. Leg: Cast on 60 sts. Distribute sts on 3 needles, 15 on #1, 30 on #2, and 15 on #3. Be careful not to twist at the needle break when joining. Work ribbing: K2,P2 for 2” Work leg and foot in stockinette stitch: K all stitches of every round. Work leg until work measures 8”. Heel Flap: Knit 15 sts, transfer balance of sts onto dpn#2, turn. Sl 1 as if to P, P29, transfer balance of sts to dpn#2. Divide sts on dpn#2 between dpn#2 and dpn #3 or onto a piece of yarn or cable for ease to work. Working back and forth on 30 dpn#1 heel sts only, beginning with a RS row: Row 1: * Sl 1, K1 *, repeat across to end of row. Row 2: Sl 1, P all sts across to end of row. Repeat these 2 rows for a total of 30 rows, ending with a WS (row 2) row. Turn Heel: Shape Instep: Still using dpn#3, K9 sts of heel flap, ending in center of heel, this will become the starting place of every new round. Round 2: Repeat rounds two and three until 60 sts remain. Toe: Round 2: Knit Repeat these 2 rounds until 30 sts remain. Continue to work toe with round 1 only until only 16 sts remain. K the sts on dpn#1 on to dpn#3. To eliminate “cat ears” at the toe, pass the second st from the end of the dpn over the end st and off the end of the needle. Repeat at all other needle ends, 6 sts remain on each needle. Graft the two sets of sts together with the Kitchener stitch. Finish the socks by weaving in the yarn ends securely, reinforcing the join at the cuff if necessary. Flat Feet Abbreviations: ©2007, Conjoined Creations
